Keep a Digital Logbook for Your Bike: Service History, Receipts and Photos
The Bike Register5 July 20264 min read

Most of us keep our bike's history in our heads and a drawer full of half-remembered receipts. A digital logbook pulls it into one place — and it pays off twice: a bike that's demonstrably well-kept is worth more, and a documented bike is far easier to recover and prove.
Why bother
Provenance sells. A buyer pays more for a bike with a clear service history — and a documented bike is one the police can actually return to you.
What to keep
- The frame number and original receipt
- Photos of the whole bike and any distinctive details
- Services and repairs, with dates — chains, bearings, brakes
- Upgrades and their receipts — wheels, groupset, finishing kit
The payoff at sale — and at recovery
When you sell, hand the buyer a complete record and you've answered half their questions before they ask. And if the bike is ever stolen and recovered, that same record is what turns an unclaimed bike in a police store into your bike.
