Spotted a Stolen Bike? Here's How to Help Safely

You're scrolling a marketplace, or you're at a car-boot sale, and something looks off — a high-end bike at a suspiciously low price, a vague seller, a filed-off number. Here's how to help without putting yourself at risk.

1. Check it against the register

If you can get the frame number or a clear photo, search the register and the Lost & Stolen board. If it matches a stolen report, you've found a real lead.

2. Note the details

Screenshot the listing, note the location and time, the seller's name and any contact details, and the asking price. Don't tip the seller off that you're suspicious.

3. Report it

Pass everything to the police (with the crime reference if it's on the alert) and, where the alert allows, let the owner know. That's the safe, effective way to help — you provide the intelligence, the police act on it.
